Service Description

The program works to ensure that victims of crime with disabilities can get services immediately. The program is staffed by people who themselves have disabilities and/or have been a victims of crime. A variety of services are available including the following.

Crisis Intervention and Advocacy such as immediate assistance to cope with the incident, help in applying to the New York State Crime Victims Board for compensation and finding legal services, referrals to local emergency services for food, money, and shelter, and accompaniment to police stations and courthouses to make sure there are no physical or communication barriers.

Peer Counseling including information the criminal justice system, the escape, discharge, or parole of a convict, on going support groups for victims and their families, and evaluation and referrals to other professional and legal counselors.

Community Education services including seminars for social service agencies, hospitals, and police departments.
